Below are many of the people that make up the AIR News team. Some are experienced journalists, other have a radio pedigree and yet others are developing their skills to make themselves available for the radio newsrooms of Australia, and the world.

At October 2009, 8 of our people have been snapped up by Commercial Radio, Commercial Television and the ABC. So someone is doing something right.

If you are a person with an interest in radio news broadcasting, and you have completed or are in the process of completing a journalism course, or have been developing experience on air with Community radio stations with a leaning to News or Sport then perhaps we can help you on your way. GEOFF TURNBULL

TUMUT

geoff.turnbull(AT)airnews.com.au

To understand Geoff’s foray onto the team at AIR News, you need to go way back to his High School days.
In English lessons the teacher would go around the class & ask each of the students to read a passage out loud to the whole class. When it came to Geoff’s turn, he would read the paragraph out loud in a manner imitating the number one television newsreader of the day, Brian Henderson. To say the teacher was NOT impressed would be understating the obvious “Why are you reading in that tone & expressing every syllable like a newsreader” came the reply from his teacher “We have newsreaders … they are on tv and radio. We DON’T need another one”. Well, little did he know that he would be proved so wrong.

Geoff has spent a number of years hosting the Breakfast program at Tumut's Sounds of the Mountains, and now he's back on the air in town as a regular presenter with Australian Independent Radio News. Only now, he speaks to the whole nation, and is bringing them the world.

PAULINE SNELL

MELBOURNE

pauline.snell(AT)airnews.com.au

Often in a state of loquacity – presenting for AIR News is the perfect starting point for she who dropped off the radio airwaves radar after a promising start graduating from the broadcasting course at the WA Academy of Performing Arts in 1994; hailed as the one most likely to succeed with a career in the media.

The perpetual insurrectionist - she thwarted all predetermined semiotics of radio fame, fortune and glory – and she went headlong into Casuarina maximum security prison, as a teacher! That didn’t last too long as the prison education centre mysteriously burned down.

For the next ten years or so – time that could have been deployed in a desert seeking enlightenment, were misspent using her powers for evil and being a communications and PR biscuit. However – fate has a weird way of smacking naysayers in the fizzog, slapping them silly and then forcing them off the quotidian and back into the land of destiny. Pauline began dabbling in AIR News in 2006 for ‘a bit of fun’ and then decided to get serious and pursue a real radio career on April Fools Day 2009.

She is still in hot pursuit – so catch her here whilst you can!
